WELCOME

Roger and his staff are very welcoming and can't do enough to please guests, (most refreshing these days).

We were greeted by Roger as if we were long-lost friends and treated like this at all times.

Roger is a wonderful host. Very welcoming and helpful. He lit a fire in the living room as it was quite a chilly afternoon and made us a cup of tea on arrival

Nothing is too much trouble and everything is relaxing and serene.

ROOMS AND FACILITIES

The rooms are fitted to an excellent standard far surpassing some large chain hotels,

Our room was well appointed with views down to the river and across the valley and the location perfect for exploring.

The beds were very comfortable and the views from the windows stunning!

They've spent money on quality fittings especially the beds

Chilled complimentary drinks in the room on arrival, and thoughtful touches such as spare toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors etc in case you forget your own were a nice 'caring touch'.

Bathrobes and slippers are also a nice touch.

Our room and bathroom were superbly equipped and furnished but there were many, many additional unexpected touches - including a selection of essential oils to perfume the bath, complimentary locally produced soft drinks in the room. The list goes on.

There is a small bar area at the back of the building and the men enjoyed a pint there while watching the football before dinner while 'the girls' had a good chat in the living room with a complimentary glass of Yorkshire wine!

FOOD AND DRINK

The evening meal was superb, Roger and his staff had obviously put in lots of effort to create some great food in a very special setting. Brocolli & cauliflower souffle to start, followed by a hearty beef and ale stew with plenty of perfectly cooked vegetables. My wife is a vegetarian and thoroughly enjoyed her chick pea and spinach casserole which had been cooked specially. A choice of desserts followed, Treacle sponge and custard, vanilla cream with a raspberry couli, and a swaledale cheesboard, we were spoilt for choice.

The food each night was very good - Roger specifically catered for my vegetarian wife - and was good value

Evidence of Rogers interest in cooking can be found in the wonderful breakfasts. An evening meal was inventive and perfectly complimented by the surprising selection of local wines.

Lots of coffee was served (free!!) and the wine before the first night's meal was well appreciated.

We shared the dinner table with our fellow guests who proved to be excellent company.

Roger has some excellent wines

OVERALL COMMENTS

This is a treasure of a place in a wonderful location with a charming host.

The proprietor is succeeding, as far as we were concerned, in running an excellent establishment.

We cannot recommend this B&B highly enough. We shall return and spend longer in this lovely place.

..But what gave us most pleasure was our host himself, a true English gentleman - welcoming, entertaining, discreet, personable and knowledgeable. We felt that we were guests in his own home.
